Woman, daughter, dog killed in Waukegan

A 53-year-old Waukegan man is in police custody after police believe he killed his wife, daughter and dog Sunday night.

Police responded to a 911 call at 6:15 p.m. that they believe was from the suspect, who told them he killed his family and was going to kill himself.

Officers responding to the call at the townhouse on the 4100 block of Continental in northwest Waukegan came upon a grisly scene. On the front porch they found what they believe to be a suicide note from the suspect. Inside they found the man suffering from what they believe to be self-inflicted wounds.

After taking the man away for medical treatment, officers returned to find a dead 50-year-old woman, 17-year-old girl and dog, who officers believe are the suspect's wife, daughter and pet.

Cmdr. Joe Florip of the Waukegan Police Department said the 17-year-old girl had disabilities related to her mobility.

Authorities said they are not releasing the cause of death on any of the victims until after the coroner's office has completed its report.

The suspect is being treated at a local hospital and is in police custody, authorities said.

The Waukegan Police Department is conducting the investigation into the incident.
