U-46 needs parents to join leadership institutes

Elgin Area School District U-46 is looking for qualified parent volunteers to join the 2013-14 African-American Parent Leadership Institute or the Hispanic Parent Leadership Institute.

Parents of students in elementary or middle school are invited to learn more about this program.

Candidates must be interested in helping involve more parents of African-American and Hispanic students in district and school activities.

Once a month, for eight months during the school year, sessions will be held to provide training for up to 25 participants in each group.

Informational meetings for interested parents will be at the U-46 district offices, 355 E. Chicago St., Elgin, Thursday, May 29, from 9 to 10 a.m. and 6 to 7 p.m.; Tuesday, June 17, from 6 to 7 p.m.; Monday, July 21, from 5 to 6 p.m.; and Thursday, Aug. 14, from 9 to 10 a.m. and 6 to 7 p.m.
