Palatine man admits stabbing roommate

A Palatine man pleaded guilty to stabbing his roommate in the stomach following an argument on Dec. 30, court records show.

Enrique Galeana, 39, was sentenced to two years in prison in exchange for his guilty plea Wednesday to aggravated battery. He received credit for 143 days in custody and was ordered to pay $689 in fines.

Palatine police said the two men argued at a different location on the morning of the stabbing. Police did not say who instigated the argument or what it was about, but they said it was intense enough that the men resumed arguing a short time later at their own apartment.

Police say Galeana fled the building after the stabbing, which took place in the kitchen. The victim was able to make it to the hallway where he called for help, police said.

The victim underwent surgery for a stomach wound, police said.
