Add some new life to your garden

The Schaumburg Community Garden Club's 25th Annual Bargain Bulb & Plant Sale will help gardeners transform their yard into a natural oasis this season with a variety of flowers, fruits and veggies and native plants.

The sale will be held from 10 a.m to 2 p.m., Saturday, June 7, at the Schaumburg Park District's Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road.

The bargain sale will be featuring tulip bulbs from the Schaumburg Park District, plant divisions potted by Garden Club members and a huge array of Illinois native plants.

"The SCGC promotes the use of natives in home gardens," said SCGC Publicity Chairperson Dianna Lord. "They tend to be more tolerant of extremes in weather because they have longer root systems, and for the same reason, they are good for breaking up our clay soil."

Visitors can browse through hundreds of plant varieties offered and purchase tulip bulbs and potted plants. Volunteers will help with choosing native plant varieties to suit any garden's needs. Veteran gardeners and native plant enthusiasts will be available to answer plant and insect related questions.

"Garden club members can make suggestions for your garden depending on your preferences and the requirements of your planting area."
