This is Benji's second top-five national finish in the Math Kangaroo competition. Last year, competing as a second-grader, Benji finished in fourth place in the United States.

Benji received his award -- a medal and a Best Buy gift card -- at the Illinois Math Kangaroo awards ceremony May 10 at the Hyatt Lisle.

More than 7 million children from more than 50 countries participated in the 2014 international Math Kangaroo competition, including more than 16,000 children from the United States.
