A music school, Ensemble of Ragas, run by Schaumburg resident and veena artist Sara Ranganathan, and SAPNA, a south suburban Flossmoor group that supports performing arts of India, are teaming up to produce the Sixth North American Veena Festival, at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 10, to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 11, at the Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago in Lemont.

The veena is an ancient stringed instrument from southern India akin to the lute and known for its bass mellow meditative tone. For the first time in North America, the festival will produce veena strains without a break for 24 hours.
