U-46 appoints Elgin woman to board

The Elgin Area School District U-46 school board Monday night appointed an Elgin woman to fill a vacancy on the seven-member board.

Linda Campos-Moreira, an Elgin Community College employee, replaces Frank Napolitano, who resigned March 21 after moving out of the district.

Campos-Moreira will serve until the next election in April 2015, when the seat will be up for election. Whoever is elected then will serve out the remainder of the term through April 2017.

Campos-Moreira ran unsuccessfully for the U-46 school board in 2013. She was selected from among eight candidates who applied and were interviewed by the board.

Campos-Moreira has served as admissions recruitment coordinator for Elgin Community College since 2011. She also serves as an adjunct faculty member in ECC's Department of General Student Development, and as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Illinois at Chicago's College of Social Work.

She has been involved with civic organizations including One Voice, Carpentersville Speak Out Against Prejudice, Elgin Metropolitan Family Services, Chicago Elgin Dreamers United, and ECC's Alliance for College Readiness, Black History Month and Latino Heritage Month committees.

Bhattacharya will be a senior next school year at Elgin High School and is part of U-46's Gifted and Talented Academy based there.
