Senior Spelling Bee May 13

To show that spelling bees are not just for schoolchildren, a group of literate senior citizens will be testing their spelling skills in the Senior Spelling Bee on Tuesday, May 13, at the Warren-Newport Public Library in Gurnee.

This event is jointly sponsored by the Senior Circle program at Vista Health System, the Warren-Newport Library and the Lake County Council for Seniors.

The Senior Spelling Bee will begin at 10 a.m. and is expected to conclude by noon. It will feature some 25 adult contestants who registered in advance through the library or the council. The Warren-Newport Public Library is at 224 N. O'Plaine Road in Gurnee. Leaders from each of the three sponsoring organizations will serve as judges.

Attendance is free and open to the public, and cheering sections for any and all participants are welcome. Refreshments will be provided. The event will benefit the Food Pantry of the COOL Ministries in Waukegan and Ingleside, so spectators are urged to bring a nonperishable can or box good for donation.
