Trivia teams square off for literacy fundraiser

North West was the answer - not a compass direction - Saturday morning. What is the name of Kanye West's and Kim Kardashian's daughter was the question.

Twenty-seven teams competed for top honors at the Literacy Connection 17th annual Trivia Bee Fundraiser Saturday at the Grand Victoria Casino in Elgin.

The Master of Ceremonies and Questions, Stew Cohen, news director of WZSR Star 105.5 and WFXF 103.9 The Fox, oversaw the contest.

The questions became progressively harder as the contest continued through the three rounds.

The Literacy Connection, which raised $17,500 with the Trivia Bee in 2013, was hoping to raise $30,000 this year in honor of its 30th anniversary.

The first Trivia Bee was held in 1998, replacing the annual Spelling Bee.

"I am honored to work with staff and volunteers who are dedicated to our organization and am grateful for our many generous donors," said Chris Awe, Literacy Connection board president.
