Janelle Monae, Jeff Tweedy among Taste headliners

Janelle Monae, Jeff Tweedy, Aloe Blacc, Grammy Award winning R&B singer Gary Clark Jr., electronic rock band AWOLNATION and folk trio Nickel Creek will be among the headliners at this year's Taste of Chicago July 9-13.

Lawn seats for the concerts, held at the Petrillo Music Shell, are free, as is admission to Chicago's annual food sampling festival. However, tickets will be sold for the Petrillo Music Shell's seating area. They will go on sale May 22 at tasteofchicago.us. Ticket prices have not yet been announced.

Taste of Chicago opens Wednesday, July 9, with alternative rock band Saints of Valory followed by AWOLNATION.

On Thursday, July 10, Gary Clark Jr. will open for “avant-garde funkstress” Monae. Friday, July 11, starts with Parker Millsap, followed by Grammy Award-winning root music trio Nickel Creek, returning to the stage after a seven-year hiatus, and 12-time Grammy Award winning singer Emmylou Harris.

Chicago native Jeff Tweedy, the leader of the band Wilco, will perform a solo show of his contemporary rock songs July 12.

Reggae superstars Wailers will open for Aloe Blacc, who will play his chart-topping hits “The Man” and “Wake Me Up.” along with other songs from his new album Sunday, July 13.
