Shots fired in Elgin, no injuries reported

Elgin police are investigating reports of a shooting Saturday night on the west side of the city.

According to police, officers responded to the 100 block of North Lyle Avenue about 8:20 p.m. on reports of gunshots in the area.

Once on scene, officers located two juveniles and one adult who stated that they were walking in the area when a vehicle occupied by several people drove past them, police said.

A verbal confrontation ensued between the two groups and several moments later shots were fired from the vehicle toward the three people on foot, according to police. No injuries were reported.

Officers located a vehicle matching the description given by the victims and detectives from Elgin's Police Department's Gang Crimes Unit responded to the scene and are conducting the investigation, police said. No suspects were in custody early Sunday and the investigation is ongoing.
