Mt. Prospect limits parking on Walnut Street

Mount Prospect trustees voted last week to prohibit parking on the north side of Walnut Street between Prospect Manor Avenue and Ridge Avenue.

A resident recently contacted the village with concerns about parking on the street, which is one block long and near the intersection of Central Road and Northwest Highway.

The north side of the street consists of single-family, residential houses, while the south side of the street is lined with businesses that do not have sufficient off-street parking for staff or customers. With vehicles packed on both sides of the 25-foot-wide street - narrower than usual for a residential street, there have been concerns that it is difficult to maintain two-way traffic flow, with snowplow vehicles in particular facing difficulties.
