Watch parents cash in on aborted sea journey

On April 9, the Coast Guard, Navy and California National Guard announced that they will not charge Eric and Charlotte Kaufman for their dramatic evacuation at sea, despite the folly for taking two toddlers on a sailboat trip around the world. Did they think their children could travel at sea on a lengthy journey and never get sick?

I certainly hope that the moment the Kaufmans sell their story and photos to People magazine, or Dateline or whomever, they will have the decency to repay the three federal agencies involved in their rescue. Methinks their hubris will outweigh their civic duty, in which case I hope Department of Defense attorneys are present the moment the Kaufmans cash their first celebrity check.
