Four businesses -- a limousine service, a day spa, an optometry office and a dog groomer -- had their petitions to establish themselves in Palatine or move to a new location within the village approved by the village council this week.
Palatine resident Faisal Rafaqat plans to open Way To Go Limousine at 213 W. Dundee Road in the English Valley Shopping Center.
According to documents filed with the village, the new business will operate four limousines: a 14-foot-long, 10-passenger Lincoln stretch limo; a 24-foot-long, 14-passenger Ford Expedition; a 24-foot-long, 14-passenger Ford Excursion; and a 28-foot-long, 14-passenger Hummer H2.
Rafaqat said the limousines will be kept in a bank of 11 parking spaces north of the office near Dundee Road. The office will be open six days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., but the limos will operate until around midnight.
Another new business approved Monday is called Indulgence Day Spa, which will be owned and operated by Hilary Lange of Crystal Lake. Lange told the council that her day spa, located at 21 N. Brockway St., would stand out because she will offer massage therapy as well.
"I think it's something that can really add to the services for the downtown area and bring in business," Lange said.
An optometry office that has been in Palatine for more than 40 years received permission to move to a new location. Palatine Vision Center will move from 451 E. Northwest Highway to its new location at 456 W. Northwest Highway, a building that used to house Soccer Plus.
Another business that will relocate is About Dogs, a dog grooming business. The new location will be at 46 E. Palatine Road.
Each of the businesses were required to obtain a special use permit from the village. The council approved all of the petitions unanimously.
