Round Lake Beach man dies after crash on Edens

A 30-year-old man from Round Lake Beach died early today after his car hit a parked semitrailer on the northbound Edens Expressway.

Michael Castaldo, the driver of a 2012 Suzuki four-door, died at the scene of the crash in Skokie.

State Police Trooper David Roman said at about 4:30 a.m. the Suzuki veered onto the right shoulder and hit the trailer of the truck. According to early reports, it did not appear the truck was disabled and the driver might have been sleeping.

Fire crews extricated Castaldo and a passenger who was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Roman said. The truck driver was not injured.

An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.
