Elgin FD a bright spot in tough times

A couple of months ago I became yet another casualty of this year's winter weather. A slip on the ice left me with a shattered left ankle and a shoulder broken in three places. The nature of my injuries meant I could not use crutches or a walker, which made negotiating the steps into and out of my home a real problem.

Who came to my rescue? My local fire department. Each time I needed to go to the doctor or hospital the men and women of Elgin Fire Station One arrived to transport me safely down the 10 steps on my front porch, and then met me at home later to carry me back in. On every occasion they could not have been more accommodating, courteous, or helpful. My wife and I were truly impressed.

Within a few weeks I was able to install a temporary ramp at my home so I no longer need to call the fire department, but their aide in my time of need will never be forgotten. They have been a bright spot during a very difficult time in my life.
