Mano a Mano Family Resource Center Names Executive Director

ROUND LAKE PARK, IL --- Mano a Mano Family Resource Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Megan McKenna de Mejía as its new Executive Director.

McKenna de Mejía brings a strong background in the community development field, with diverse program development and management experience in the non-profit and public sectors. Her experience in Lake County includes working with early childhood education programming at United Way, affordable housing and social services at Lake County Community Development Division, and Spanish-language adult education at UMMA Center in Waukegan. She also has experience in immigration legal services, community engagement, and research/policy analysis. McKenna de Mejía assumes her new role on April 14, 2014.

"On behalf of the Board of Directors of Mano a Mano, I am delighted to welcome Megan McKenna de Mejía as the new executive director," said Board President Larry Waco, Sr. "Her wealth of experience and demonstrated leadership will help Mano a Mano move forward in its mission to empower immigrant and underserved families in Lake County."

As Executive Director, McKenna de Mejía will lead an organization that helps more than 4,000 people each year access health care, education, coaching and life skills, and citizenship assistance.

"It's an honor to join Mano a Mano Family Resource Center," McKenna de Mejía said. "The organization has such a rich history of serving the community, and I look forward to building on that so we can continue to improve lives and our community."

McKenna de Mejía has a bachelor's degree in political science from Truman State University and a master's degree in Community and Regional Planning with concentrations in Community Development and Program Evaluation from the University of New Mexico. She is bilingual English/Spanish.
