Elk Grove man drowns in Chicago River

An Elk Grove Village man drowned in the Chicago River Sunday in an accident that may have been influenced by alcohol, the Cook County medical examiner's office said.

A Chicago police marine unit responded to a call about 5:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of North Kingsbury for a possible missing man whose clothes were found in a pile near the river, Chicago police officer Thomas Sweeney said.

The body of Ryan McClelland, 30, was found about 7:50 p.m. Sunday near the 1000 block of West Weed Street. An autopsy Monday determined McClelland accidentally drowned and that he was intoxicated at the time, the medical examiner's office said. Chicago police continue to investigate.
