Huntley woman dies in Gilberts crash

The Kane County coroner's office and Gilberts police are investigating a weekend car crash that killed a 62-year-old Huntley woman, authorities said Monday in a news release.

The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Huntley and Kreutzer roads in Gilberts. It involved a Dodge Caravan and a BMW.

Sylvia Franco of Huntley was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The cause of death is pending autopsy and toxicology results.

Franco was in the Caravan with two others - a male who was injured and taken first to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin and later transferred to Advocate Lutheran General in Park Ridge, and a 10-year-old boy who did not suffer any injuries, Gilberts Police Lt. Mike Joswick said.

"He was wearing a seat belt," Joswick said of the 10-year-old. He did not know if others were wearing seat belts, nor the conditions of others involved.

The driver of the BMW was transported by Flight for Life to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, he added.

Investigators are still trying to determine what exactly happened and reconstruct the accident, Joswick said.
