Police say 19-year-old robbed woman at Algonquin Commons

Algonquin police arrested a 19-year-old man suspected of snatching a purse from a woman at the Algonquin Commons parking lot Saturday afternoon.

Andy K. Lopez-Carbajal, whose last known address was in Woodstock, was charged with armed robbery, a class X felony, police said.

Algonquin police responded shortly before 2:30 p.m. to the parking lot off Randall Road.

Police said it was reported that the suspect threatened a person with an unknown weapon that was later determined to be a screwdriver, and demanded the victim's purse.

The suspect then fled the scene in a white Toyota Camry.

The victim was uninjured and was able to provide officers with a partial license plate number from the suspect's vehicle.

A short time later, an off-duty Algonquin police officer observed a vehicle matching that description on Algonquin Road.

The officer followed the vehicle and called 911.

Lake in the Hills police officers responded to detain the man in a gas station parking lot.

After a positive identification, the suspect was taken into custody by Algonquin police.

The stolen purse was recovered in the suspect's vehicle.
