Prospect Heights Dollars for Scholars applications now available

Now is the time to apply for a Prospect Heights Dollars for Scholars 2014-2015 scholarship. The application deadline is Friday, April 18.

A recent generous donation of $5,000 from area residents George and Christine Winandy will allow Prospect Heights Dollars for Scholars to increase the number of scholarships awarded for the 2014-2015 school year from eight to 10: Six, 1-year $2,500 Academic Scholarships; one, 1-year $2,500 Nick Teramani Vocational Scholarship; one, Charles E. Priester Four-Year Renewable Academic Scholarship, an award of $10,000 (over a four-year period) and two, 1-Year $2,500 George and Christine Academic Scholarships.

Applicants must be residents of Prospect Heights or Wheeling, and current high school seniors, home-schooled seniors, or college/university undergraduates. Past recipients are eligible to apply as well. Recipient selection is based on financial need, academic standing, community involvement and extracurricular school activities, a written essay, and two letters of recommendation. Finalists will be invited for a personal interview with representatives of the Prospect Heights Dollars for Scholars Board of Directors.

This year's application process is online through the newly launched website, www.ph.dollarsforscholars.org. Students now have the ability to create an online profile, get matched to scholarships they qualify for, and then apply for those scholarships - at both the local and national levels - in just a couple of clicks.
