A 22-year veteran of the force has been named the new police chief in Round Lake Beach. Cmdr. David Hare will be appointed as the new chief to succeed Gary Bitler, who is retiring, the village announced Thursday. Hare began his career as a police officer in the village in 1992 and rose through the ranks. He has a master's degree in public administration and has been an adjunct instructor at Northwestern University's Center for Public Safety for seven years. The appointment will be made official Monday at a special village board meeting.
