Economical way to meet student needs

Economical way to meet student needs

Please support Glenbard District 87's referendum on the March 18 ballot. The referendum does not add any cost, but would allow District 87 to issue bonds for capital improvements to all four of the high schools.

The bond transaction would be so structured that the bonds that are retiring would be replaced with a zero tax rate increase to the bond and interest fund.

All of the schools are in need of many and various building improvements. Improvements needed are roof replacements, security enhancements, air conditioning, energy conservation and laboratory modernizations. These improvements will permit our students to learn in a safe and comfortable environment.

We are 28-year residents of Lombard and had three children who graduated from Glenbard East High School. The facility for our two older children lacked greatly in many ways. Due to voter support, our third child saw a much improved East. Without passage of an earlier referendum, our high school would not have been able to make those improvements.

The passage of this referendum will continue to provide the improvements so badly needed. Large cost items such as boiler and roof replacement can be postponed only for a limited amount of time. Modern labs are crucial for our students to achieve in the sciences.

The school district has developed a plan that will address these needs without increasing what we are already paying toward bond and interest debt.

Please support our students and vote yes on March 18.
