Woman found dead in snow identified

An elderly Huntley woman who apparently wandered away from her home and was later found dead in the snow has been identified by the Kane County coroner's office.

Bodil E. Becker was found along the road by a passing driver about 9 a.m. Saturday not far from her home, the coroner's office said in a release.

McHenry County Undersheriff Andy Zinke says the woman, clad in nightgown and shoes, apparently died of exposure to the cold and may have had dementia.

She was found on the 11500 block of Hemmer Road and transported to Sherman Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, coroner's officials said.

Zinke says it's important to check on elderly family members during cold weather.
