Parents invited to U-46's Kindergarten Rally

Submitted by U-46

Parents or guardians who plan to send their child to kindergarten in Elgin Area School District U-46 for the 2014-2015 school year should attend kindergarten rally at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at their child's home school.

Children who turn 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 will be eligible.

"We want to make it as easy as possible for parents of little ones entering the school district," said Superintendent José M. Torres. "The Kindergarten Rally should help ease parents' kindergarten jitters by providing them an opportunity to check out their child's new school, get all of the required registration forms, and ask questions."

During the kindergarten rally, parents will preregister their child for kindergarten at the school their child will attend. Parents or guardians must bring the child's original birth certificate and three proofs of residence in the district. Registration forms, immunization requirements and other informational materials will be distributed at Kindergarten Rally.

Parents or guardians who have questions about where their child will attend school can contact U-46's School and Community Relations office, (847) 888-5000, ext. 5003 or they can check on www.u-46.org.

The Illinois School Code requires kindergarten students to submit a report of a physical examination and the dates that certain immunizations were received in order to attend school. All immunizations must be recorded on the state approved examination form. Area physicians and all U-46 schools have the state-approved physical exam forms. The forms are also available on the district's website. Physical exam documents must be brought to the school on or before the first day of class. U-46 has a First Day Exclusion policy for physical examinations and immunizations.
