Fire causes $100,000 damage to Downers Grove home

No injuries were reported Thursday morning in a fire that caused roughly $100,000 damage to a house on the 300 block of 55th Street in Downers Grove, authorities said.

Firefighters said they arrived to find smoke coming from the roof and eaves of a small one-story house. The first crews on the scene entered the house and found the fire centered in the kitchen and extending into the attic.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and firefighters said the family will not immediately be allowed back into the house because of damage to utilities and interior finishings.

Downers Grove firefighters were assisted by crews from Darien-Woodridge, Hinsdale, Lisle-Woodridge, Westmont and Oak Brook.
