Des Plaines man guilty of improperly contacting witness

A Des Plaines man pleaded guilty to charges that involved threats to a witness in a criminal case against him, court records show.

Michael Schaar, who police say was on parole at the time of his arrest last summer, pleaded guilty Monday to improperly communicating with a witness and was sentenced to 18 months probation, records show. Schaar was also ordered to pay $609 in fines.

Authorities said Schaar spit on and verbally threatened the victim, who was a witness in an assault case against him.
