Man pleads guilty to Mount Prospect parking lot shooting
A 27-year-old man pleaded guilty Tuesday to firing a gun in a Mount Prospect parking lot and grazing the head of a 19-year-old.
Alan J. Frank pleaded guilty in Rolling Meadows to aggravated battery with a firearm. In exchange, Cook County Judge Thomas Fecarotta sentenced Frank to 10 years in prison. Upon Frank's request, Fecarotta recommended he be admitted to the Illinois Department of Corrections drug abuse rehabilitation program.
The shooting occurred July 16, 2012, following an encounter in a parking lot on the 2200 block of South Elmhurst Road in Mount Prospect.
Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Mike Gerber said Frank discharged his gun because he believed the victim and the people he was with had robbed him the previous day.
Frank, whose last known address was in Mount Prospect, received credit for 575 days in custody. He must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
