Crawl-space fire damages Batavia house
A firefighter fell on ice, straining his lower back, fighting a fire Friday night at 332 Evergreen Drive in Batavia.
The firefighter was treated and released at a hospital.
The fire was reported at 5:35 p.m. There was smoke on the first floor, and a fire in the crawl space.
There was smoke and structural damage to floor joists, flooring and walls of the single-story house. Batavia Township assessment records indicate it was built in 1959, and sold in 2011 for $166,000.
The cause is under investigation. Damage was estimated at $15,000 to the building, and $1,000 to contents.
