Enough of the second chances

Mike Imren's article on Roger Goodell was with good intent, however, does he really think anything is going to permanently change if Goodell departs? I feel Goodell should be gone and a long time ago.

This man has made poor decisions before like reinstating Michael Vick after Vick "served his time." I am sick of hearing how Vick served his time and thus deserved a second chance to return to the NFL. These players and all major league sports figures are paid exorbitant amounts of money. They should be held to a higher standard and if they willfully screw that up then they should be gone - permanently. No second chances.

Sadly, our high school athletes are held to higher standards than the major leaguers. The leagues and players need to know the deal - you screw up, you are gone. Go get whatever help you need and move on to something else, but your chances of the getting your league job back, making millions and being a role model is over.

This "second chance" line of thinking after beating a woman and murdering animals is exactly why we are at this point. Unless this uproar continues to play out the Ray Rice thing won't be any different from Vick. Rice will go get his "help," then be reinstated when things die down. It's all about the money. If a player is good and a team wants him, he'll be back.

Nothing gets done until it is brought to light and there is an uproar. Just like the NBA and Sterling. It has been said it was widely known throughout the NBA that Sterling was racist, but nothing was done until someone illegally recorded him in a private conversation. Tape recordings, cameras and the public eye, then something is done.
