• Leticia Sotelo, 37, of the 600 block of Copper Avenue, Elgin, was arrested Wednesday at a big box store in the 300 block of South Randall Road and charged with retail theft, according to a police report. Store employees saw Sotelo place several items inside a plastic tub and leave the store. The merchandise was valued at $300. She was being held on $30,000 bail, and her next court date is Jan. 22.
• Noe Acevedo, 18, of the 100 block of Madera Circle, Carpentersville, was arrested Wednesday night during a traffic stop and charged with possession of a controlled substance after he showed officers a bag of cocaine in his pocket during a police search, Cmdr. Timothy Bosshart said. Acevedo was the passenger in the vehicle, while Eduardo Puga, 19. of the 100 block of DelRio Road, was the driver, Bosshart said. Puga faced a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession and was also cited for driving without a driver's license and for disobeying a stop sign, Bosshart said. Acevedo's bail was set at $7,500 Thursday, and he is next due in court Feb. 5.
