Cartoon showed unfair view of NRA

The Dec. 19 political cartoon in which the NRA was depicted as uncaring, bloodthirsty gun owners was despicable. Publishing such rubbish makes a powerful statement about the wisdom of your editorial staff. The Sandy Hook shooting was a tragedy, but one cannot lay it at the feet of the NRA.

If one could think back to the Revolutionary times, the heroic fighters against the oppressive British government might rightly have been the NRA members of that day. Today’s 5 million NRA members are reasonable, caring, law-abiding citizens who want nothing more than personal protection for themselves and their families, and the same for everyone, including all our schoolchildren. Our police do their very best, but cannot be on the spot in every case when needed.

The framers of our Constitution specifically included the Second Amendment to protect the citizenry against a tyrannical government. One wonders if we are not approaching that today, judging by the government’s disregard for the Constitution.

Your stated motto is “To fear God, tell the truth, and make money.” It would appear that making money is the only part of your motto that you follow. In this case you certainly have not told the truth, and in the light of this terribly biased cartoon, you had better fear God.
