What will replace the Elk Grove Dominick’s?

Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson said there’s been “lots of rumors” recently, but no word yet on what might replace the soon-to-be closed Dominick’s store at the Elk Grove Town Center.

Johnson said following a recent village board meeting that he’s confident a store will eventually locate at 980 Elk Grove Town Center.

“It won’t be a vacant store at all,” he said. “Every single grocery chain in America knows about Elk Grove. I would hope something would happen soon.”

Dominick’s owner Safeway is closing all 72 of its remaining stores in the Chicago area by the end of the year. Some Dominick’s stores have been sold to the parent companies of Jewel and Mariano’s. Others, like the Elk Grove store, don’t have a buyer.

The store’s final day in business is Saturday.
