Carol Stream pedophile gets 33 years
A 40-year-old Carol Stream man was sentenced to 33 years in prison Friday for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.
A jury found Antonio Penaflor guilty Oct. 31 of four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and two counts of criminal sexual abuse.
He was sentenced by DuPage County Judge George Bakalis and will have to serve 27 years before becoming eligible for parole.
Prosecutors said that in the fall of 2011, Penaflor assaulted his victim several times at her home, as well as at a Wood Dale hotel on her 13th birthday. She was the cousin of an acquaintance. Prosecutors said he had groomed her, via text messages, to be susceptible to abuse.
The acquaintance grew suspicious of the relationship and brought the girl to Carol Stream police, who investigated the charges with the DuPage County Children’s Center. Penaflor was arrested in February 2012.
He has been in the DuPage County jail since his arrest.
