Respect the freedom to express our beliefs

In response to a Dec. 8 letter, I’d like to remind the writer that telling people not to say merry Christmas offends people who do say that. And that is OK unless he is offended.

Let me remind him that we live in a country that has freedom of speech and freedom of religion. If he doesn’t want to hear “merry Christmas,” then he has the choice of moving to a country where he won’t hear it, or to live in this country and respect people’s choice of what they want to say. That comes under “freedom of speech.”

I respect other people’s choice of celebrating this time of year, and their choice of words and I suggest the writer do the same. Let me end by saying, “Merry Christmas!”
