Artistry in Motion Celebrates 10 Spectacular Years

Artistry in Motion, the resident dance company of the Des Plaines Park District, will present their 2013 Winter Spectacular on Friday, December 13 at 7:00pm and Saturday, December 14 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm in the Prairie Lakes Theater. Featuring several styles of dance including, jazz, ballet, tap, modern, and lyrical, Spectacular offers friends and family the opportunity to appreciate the talents of over fifty student dancers as they celebrate their tenth anniversary.

The dancers will perform three new pieces from 2013: “Youth,” choreographed by Jamie Salas; “Silent Night,” choreographed by Cecilia Ferguson-Bell; and “Song of the Heart,” choreographed by Rich Ashworth; and seven dances from their repertoire by choreographers Laura Chiuve, Mary Williams, Allie Buchweitz, Jenny Ostrowski, and Nicole Argudo. “After months of preparation, constant rehearsal and attention to detail, Artistry will bring to life the music behind each of its choreographies as we usher in a season of celebrations,” said Nancy Suwalski, Cultural Arts Supervisor.

Joining the Spectacular for the second year, in the second act, will be ten preschool dancers from the Tots in Motion program performing “Melting Snowman,” choreographed by Laura Chiuve. The Tots in Motion program, for children ages three through five years, is designed to introduce budding dancers to technique and terminology. Also, in the second half, The Footnotes Performing Troupe will entertain the crowd with a Broadway-style production of highlights from the musical Annie. “We also welcome two of our Artistry alumnae, Nicole Argudo, 2009, and Amy Dunn, 2012, who will perform Bah Humbug choreographed by Argudo. The O'Hare Irish Dancers will also perform traditional soft and hard shoe pieces in their traditional lace and embroidered Celtic costumes.

Children are invited to make arts and crafts with the AiM elves, have their faces painted, and have their picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Artistry in Motion performs at local venues around the state, and twice a year at the Prairie Lakes Theater. The company focuses on advanced technique and original pieces set for the company that include an eclectic mix of jazz, tap, lyrical, ballet, modern, and hip hop styles.
