Deeper SNAP cuts are a bad idea
Deeper SNAP cuts are a bad idea
More than 49 million Americans (16 million children) are food insecure. The average SNAP benefit is about $4.20/day. The U.S. House of Representatives (including Hultgren) wants even deeper cuts to SNAP. They say our food banks and pantries can make up the difference.
This is not possible because they already expanded 50 percent in the last few years. Why are so many still hungry in our country? How can anyone live on minimum wage and/or support a family? Do you know anyone who does? Meet someone and ask them about their life.
Sequestration needs to be replaced with responsible spending cuts and new revenues and to sustain and strengthen programs vital to hungry people. Thanks for giving to our food pantries. It covers about 10 percent of the need.
Please call or email your representative pass a Farm Bill that does not increase hunger in our country.
