Missing Batavia man found safe

A missing Batavia man was found safe on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Peter A. Maloney, 68 of Batavia, was supposed to take a Metra train from Union Station to the Route 59 station in Aurora at 2:30 p.m. Monday, but never arrived police said.

A good Samaritan saw Maloney sitting on an inbound Metra train from West Chicago to Chicago at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release.

The person told police that Maloney appeared lost and tired. The good Samaritan gave Maloney their cellphone to call his family in Batavia and stayed with him at the train station until family members arrived.

According to family, Maloney got lost boarding the wrong train after arriving at Union Station on an Amtrak train on Monday afternoon. He walked across the street and boarded a train out of Ogilvie Transportation Center to West Chicago, where he spent the night outside on the platform. On Tuesday, he boarded the inbound Metra from West Chicago, when he was found by the good Samaritan, according to police.

Maloney was uninjured when reunited with family.
