Des Plaines’ school hosts first Paw Market

Cumberland Elementary School, 700 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines, hosted its first Paw Market on Friday, Nov. 8, which was the culminating activity for its Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports celebration.

Students earned Paw Prints for good behavior and could use them to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win a Kindle Fire or spend them at the Market on a wide range of items.

The celebration started with an assembly where Principal Colleen White picked the winning raffle ticket. Jadyn Chelberg, first grade, won the Kindle Fire. Then, the assembled students were divided and went to the Market in the multipurpose room to shop, the game room to play or stayed in the gym to dance.

The buyers in the Market started out at coloring stations. Small groups were sent through the sales area. Buyers were given a set amount of time to view all available items and make their purchases. After shopping, students moved to other rooms and the next group of buyers began the process. Everyone enjoyed this wonderful event.
