Illinois lawmakers are about to take away our right to initiate petitions for a ballot vote.

Last summer, 14 petitioners collected signatures from Kane County voters for an advisory question for the 2012 November ballot. The question asked if voters thought the Constitution should be amended to limit all this secret, unlimited and unregulated money that is being used to buy our elections and politicians, thanks to the disastrous decision by the Supreme Court in 2010 on Citizens United.

Last November, the advisory question passed by 74 percent of all Kane voters and was ultimately passed in Springfield making Illinois the 14th state to do so.

Then along came HB 2454 by our legislators that would stop citizens from putting advisory questions on the ballot in the future. Sadly, it passed overwhelmingly. Governor Quinn has vetoed it and now our legislators will be voting to override the Governor’s veto.

Call your representative and state senator and tell them to uphold the Governor’s veto.
