Man dies after falling off truck at Woodfield Mall

A 44-year-old man from Maywood died Sunday after falling from a truck lift gate while unloading boxes of shelving units at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, authorities said.

Eric Terrell and another person were placing shelving units onto the truck lift gate in preparation to move the units into the mall when he fell, said Sgt. John Nebl of the Schaumburg Police Department.

Several boxes from the lift gate then dropped onto him, Nebl said. Terrell was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, where he was pronounced dead at about noon.

According to the results of an autopsy Monday by the Cook County medical examiner’s office, Terrell died from multiple injuries caused by the fall and being crushed by the falling boxes. His death was ruled accidental.
