Westmont library director resigns after 12 years

Christine Kuhn has resigned as director of the Westmont Public Library. The board of trustees held a special meeting on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 to officially accept her resignation and begin initial steps for hiring a replacement.

During her tenure, Kuhn oversaw several large projects. In 2006, a referendum was successfully passed that allowed for purchasing of additional material for the collection, a remodel of the youth services area, and an increase in circulation. Kuhn managed the roof replacement project in 2009 as well as the renovation of the front plaza in 2011. “My primary goal has been to provide quality library services while guarding the taxpayer's interests,” Kuhn said.

Kuhn's efforts to increase the library's involvement in the community resulted in partnerships with organizations like the Westmont Chamber of Commerce where she served on the Business Growth and Development Committee. Under her leadership, staff spent time visiting schools, daycares, local businesses, and participating in events like Taste of Westmont and the Westmont Street Fair.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed growing with the Westmont Public Library and the Westmont community,” Kuhn said. “It has been a privilege to work with this staff. I look forward to watching them take the library to even further heights.”

The staff and board of trustees are grateful for her many years of dedicated service to the community. “Christine is an innovator and came up with creative ways to expand and maximize the space at the library even while the board abated taxes over the years. The board has enjoyed working with her the past twelve years and wish her all the best moving forward,” said Amy Porter, Library Board President.

While the board searches for a permanent director, Julia Coen will act as interim director. To contact Ms. Coen, email jcoen@westmonlibrary.org or call 630-969-5625 ext. 221.
