Road closures starting Friday in Elgin

Drivers will have to contend with about a week of intermittent closures starting Friday at McLean Boulevard and Route 20 in Elgin.

The Illinois Department of Transportation is performing a $50 million reconstruction of that interchange.

The ramp from McLean Boulevard to westbound Route 20 will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a marked detour in place, officials said.

Also, there will be an intermittent closure on McLean Boulevard at the Route 20 bypass, tentatively scheduled for 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. and lasting about 10 minutes each, officials said.

Elgin Police Cmdr. Ana Lalley said police will assist during road closures, which are necessary to set the new bridge beams over McLean Boulevard. The closures will be in place approximately one week, officials said.

The IDOT project includes replacing and widening the Route 20 bridge over McLean Boulevard, and widening and reconstructing McLean Boulevard from south of Fleetwood Drive to north of Lillian Street. The project is expected to conclude in fall 2014.
