Tailgate party raises $90,000 for Home of Sparrow

Friends of Home of the Sparrow held its “Tailgate with Friends” fundraising event on Saturday, Oct. 19, at Pinstripes in South Barrington.

From all sources, donations, underwriting, auction purchases, etc., more than $90,000 was raised, with 110 persons attending.

The grand prize raffle drawing for an Xbox was won by Tom Riley.

All proceeds of the evening will benefit Home of the Sparrow, which provides counseling, job-skills training and transitional housing to women/children of the Northwest Suburbs at risk for homelessness due to circumstances such as death of a spouse, loss of a job or an abusive situation. Home of the Sparrow facilities are located in McHenry and Crystal Lake.

Attendees had a good time playing bocce ball or baggo, enjoying the barbecue buffet dinner and silent and live auctions.
