Des Plaines men convicted in dumbbell attack

Two Des Plaines men were found guilty Wednesday of aggravated battery for attacking another man with a dumbbell.

Nicholas Ungureanu, of the 2000 block of Touhy Avenue, and Bryan Fogell, of the 1700 block of Junior Terrace, both 22, could face two to five years in prison when they are sentenced in December for the class 3 felony. Probation is also an option.

The defendants entered the 20-year-old victim’s home in unincorporated Des Plaines the afternoon of March 25, punched him and hit him with the hand weight, sheriff’s police said. The victim, who knew his attackers, was treated for non life-threatening injuries, police said.

The guilty verdict was pronounced by Cook County Judge Kay Hanlon following a bench trial prosecutors said.

Ungureanu and Fogell, both 22, next appear in court on Dec. 4 for sentencing.
