Two garages caught fire Thursday night in Wheaton, but no residents were injured or displaced by the blaze.

Wheaton firefighters were dispatched at 7:30 p.m. to 1314 S. Campbell Ave. By the time they arrived, the fire in a detached garage had already spread to an adjoining garage to the north and fences at the rear of the property.

The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes.

All of the occupants of homes adjoining the fires safely evacuated.

The homes associated with the garages sustained minor damage but remained habitable.

The fire affected ComEd service to the area. ComEd crews were called to the scene to restore electricity.

The fire department received assistance from the Wheaton Police Department and several fire departments from neighboring communities.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined. Damage estimates were unavailable.
