Let’s start over and elect new lawmakers

After having worked in education as a teacher, administrator and college instructor, and having earned advanced degrees, I consider myself to be a relatively intelligent individual. So why do I have these questions for which I cannot come up with answers?

In light of all of the most recent mass shootings, why do we continue to re-elect politicians who oppose the banning of assault weapons? Why do we continue to re-elect state legislators who, after “borrowing” from pension funds, want to punish those public servants who paid into those pension plans by radically altering these pension plans to make up for the “borrowed” money which was never returned?

In fact, why would we think of re-electing any of the current state and federal legislators who are doing nothing to get our state and country back on the right track? How about refusing to re-elect any incumbents this time around?

Let’s forget about party lines in our next elections and just clean house. Maybe then those who are elected, as well as those who won’t be up for re-election for another two years, will see that the people of Illinois and the general populous of this great nation will no longer tolerate elected officials who get nothing accomplished while in office.
