Vandals targeting vehicles in Des Plaines; damage estimates in the thousands

Des Plaines police have received more than a dozen reports of vandalism to autos in the last two weeks. Among them were these:

Ÿ Vandals slashed the passenger’s-side tires on a Honda Pilot between 6 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sept. 18 and punctured a driver’s-side tire on a Chevrolet Trailblazer between 5 p.m. Sept. 18 and 3:20 a.m. Sept. 19 in a lot on the 400 block of Alles. Damage was estimated at $587.

Ÿ Vandals put a 3-foot-long scratch on the rear driver’s side of a Subaru between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sept. 19 in a lot at the Alden Center, 1221 E. Golf Road. Damage was estimated at $1,000.

Ÿ Vandals shattered the rear driver’s-side window between 7 and 8:45 p.m. Sept. 19 on a Honda Pilot in a lot on the 500 block of East Thacker Street. Damage was estimated at $200.

Ÿ Vandals punctured four tires between Sept. 12 and 19 on a Volkswagen and punctured three tires between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sept. 18 on a Honda CR-V in a lot on the 400 block of Alles Street. Damage to the Volkswagen was estimated at $800.

Ÿ Vandals shattered the front driver’s-side window on a GMC Sierra and a Chevrolet Blazer between 9 p.m. and midnight Sept. 20 parked on the street on the 1800 block of East Illinois Street.

Ÿ Vandals shattered four side windows and the rear window between midnight and 1:55 a.m. Sept. 21 on a Mitsubishi parked on the street on the 1300 block of South Cora Street. Damage was estimated at $2,000.

Ÿ Vandals smashed the rear window of a Buick Lacrosse between 5:45 and 11:45 a.m. Sept. 22 in the 2900 block of Curtis Street. Damage was estimated at $300.

Ÿ Vandals shattered two rear driver’s-side windows on a GMC van between 6 p.m. Sept. 21 and 7 a.m. Sept. 22 on the 1800 block of Pine Street. Damage was estimated at $600.

Ÿ Vandals smashed he rear window of a Ford Explorer between 10:45 and 11:05 p.m. Sept. 20 in a lot on the 100 block of Dover Drive. Damage was estimated at $300.

Ÿ Vandals shattered the rear driver’s-side window of a Hyundai between 8:30 p.m. Sept. 21 and 1:23 a.m. Sept. 22, apparently using a BB-gun pellet, on the 800 block of East Howard Avenue. Damage was estimated at $250.

Ÿ Vandals slashed both driver’s-side tires on a Ford Contour between 10:30 p.m. Sept. 22 and 10:40 a.m. Sept. 23 in a lot on the 100 block of Dover Lane. Damage was estimated at $80.

Ÿ Vandals slashed both driver’s-side tires on a BMW SUV between Sept. 18 and 24 in an apartment lot on the 1400 block of Perry Street. Damage was estimated at $800.

Ÿ Vandals shattered the rear driver’s-side window between Sept. 19 and 21 on a vehicle on the 1900 block of East Howard Avenue. Damage was estimated at $250.
