Des Plaines Library to host student engineering expo

Students can explore engineering through a host of interactive activities led by structural engineers at an open house from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Des Plaines Public Library, 1501 Ellinwood St. The engineers expo, in its fifth year, is free and open to the public. It will feature interactive displays and presentations that are fun, educational and designed to enhance children’s interest in math, science and engineering. The program is a joint effort among local professional engineering and scientific societies, area national laboratories and businesses. The target audience is students in third to eighth grades, though high school students and parents will come away with an appreciation and understanding of engineering. About 400 people attended last year’s open house. For more information, visit dppl.org or call (847) 827-5551.
