The Connect Committee of Middle School North PTO in Hawthorn Woods is holding "penny wars" through Friday in an effort to raise money to buy winter coats for disadvantaged children at Lake Zurich Unit District 95. During lunch, each grade will have an opportunity to contribute to the collection. Penny wars proceeds will go toward the new winter jackets. The coats will be provided through Operation Warm in partnership with Joanie's Closet, a District 95 service organization, and The Chapel-Lake Zurich. The Connect Committee and community partners want to help 500 local children from families in need with the gift of a new coat. Some wraps will be distributed through District 95 schools in conjunction with Joanie's Closet. The Chapel's mobile food pantry is to handle distribution Nov. 9. Donations may be made online at operationwarm.org/LakeZurichCFK.
